I have been searching for this in my local Asian grocery stores and none stock it. Was so pleased to find Asian pantry online. I make a marinade with this, some garlic, Chinese wine and water. The pork takes on a rich red colour and the aroma is mouth watering. Perfect bbq pork results, either cooked in the oven or bbq.
This is like a secret Chinese secret that only Chinese people know. The last time I saw this product was about 30 years ago. I bought so much to send to my friends. I also add extra sugar and bourbon whiskey to the mix a substitute for the traditional recipe for rice wine. Warming the mix to melt the sugar warms the meat when added drawing in more of the spice when put in the fridge. I used pork shoulder, but belly is best
